The Islamic Texts Society’s Muslim Personalities Series
is dedicated to the lives of major figures who have contributed
significantly to the growth and development of Islamic civilisation
and culture. The Series will present short, scholarly introductions
to the biography, ideas and impact of these figures, locating
them in their time and tracing their influence over the ages.
It will cover not just religious scholars and philosophers, but
also architects, poets, and polymaths. The aim of the series is
to provide accessible works for both the student and the interested
reader, works that represent state-of-the-art research and promote
further investigation. Below is the first title to appear in the
Series and forthcoming titles will be dedicated to: Shafi’i,
Tabari, Farabi, Avicenna and Mulla Sadra.
